Professor Iva Holmerová graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University (1981), where she specialised in General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Public Health and Long-Term Care. She completed her PhD in Social Gerontology and Social Anthropology.
She is the founding Director and Consultant Geriatrician at the Centre of Gerontology in Prague 8; Associate Professor, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague; founding head of CELLO (Centre of Expertise in Longevity and Long-term Care); Vice-Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, and Visiting Professor at the Centre for Dementia Policy and Practice, University of the West of Scotland (2014). She has dedicated herself to the issues of gerontology, long-term care for older people, and the treatment of dementia.
Professor Holmerová is also Vice-Chairperson of Alzheimer Europe; Chairperson of the Czech Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics; a board member of INTERDEM, EUGMS, ELTECA; the founder of the Czech Alzheimer's Society, and a member of the Government Committee on Ageing since 2005.
She is Chief Investigator and co-applicant of numerous national and international research and development projects, most recently PALLIARE (Erasmus +KA2), INDUCT (ICT Marie Curie H2020, University of Nottingham) and FWF GACR LA.
