Czech Sociological Association Conference

On November 28 - 30, 2018, the Annual Conference of the Czech Sociological Society will take place at the University of Hradec Králové. As part of the section called Actor-Network Theory in Czech Sociology, the contribution of Michal Synek, Dana Hradcová, Radek Carboch and Dita Jahodová " In Between Silence and Matters of Care: Ethnography of Cognitive Dis/Ability". 29 - 31 October 2018 - Alzheimer Europe Conference

The 28th Annual Alzheimer Europe Conference, this time in Barcelona, Spain, in cooperation with CEAFA (La Confederación Española de Alzheimer) and Fundación Alzheimer España, takes place on October 29 - 31, 2018. This year's theme is "Making dementia a European priority". Doc. MUDr. Iva Holmerová, Ph.D. presents the topic of "patient`s knowledge" this year.

September 25th - 26th, 2018 - Prague days of gerontology

On Wednesday, 25th and Thursday 26th September 2018, the 21st Annual Prague Days of Gerontology will be held.


This year's meeting of Gerontology professionals takes place at the National Library of Technology, Technická 6/2710, Prague 6 - Dejvice. More information about the program and applications can be found here.

September 10 - 14, 2018 - INDUCT Summer school

From 10th to 14th September 2018, the fourth training event of the INDUCT project (Summer School) will take place at the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education at the Ilf Hotel. The subtitle is "Building skills for the future".

15 early stage researchers will undertake a two-day series of workshops, lectures and presentations (Interdem Academy Masterclass), a part of the 5-day programme will also be an excursion to the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC).

BMC Geriatrics Article

During the summer, BMC Geriatrics published an article entitled "Cross-sectional study of prevalence of dementia, behavioural symptoms, mobility, pain and other health parameters in nursing homes in Austria and the Czech Republic: results from the DEMDATA project". The article is authored by Stefanie R. Auer, Margit Höfler, Elisabeth Linsmayer, Anna Berankova, Doris Prieschl, Paulina Ratajczak, Michal Šteffl and Iva Holmerová. The article sums up data collected during our two-year Czech-Austrian project.

EASST: Conference paper

At the conference organized by the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology, held from July 25-28, 2018 in Lancaster, Dana Hradcová, Michal Synek, Radka Carboch and Dita Jahodová presented their paper "In between silence and re-describing matters of care: An attempt at ethnography of cognitive dis/ability".

An Article in Medicine Antropology Theory

Michal Synek's article "Perfect etiquette. On diplomatically arguing with members." was recently published in Medicine Anthropology Theory. Full version of the article is accessible here.

3 - 4 March 2018 - Microfestival Menteatral at the ALTA Studio

March 3 - 4, 2018, a  microfestival titled Menteatral will be held in the ALTA Studio, in the words of the organizers it is "a weekend minifestival where audience can meet actors with disabilities and look into their artworks. It is not just a festival, but also a platform for the presentation, the exchange of experience and the mutual inspiration of the artists." The festival will also feature our colleagues from the UJETO Theater (Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at 4:30 pm) and Roman Radkovič Collective (the same day at 7:30 pm).

17 February 2018 - Interdisciplinary workshop

On February 17, 2018, a multidisciplinary workshop entitled "(In)Capacity, Health, Disability and Handicap in Humanities and Social Sciences" will take place at the Academic Center, Husova 4a, Prague 1, from 9 am to 5 pm. CELLO will be represented by Radek Carboch, Dana Hradcová, Dita Jahodová and Michal Synek with a paper titled Between Silence and Translation: Ethnography of Cognitive Disability. Read more.

An Article in European Journal of Ageing

In the January issue of the European Journal of Aging, Kateřina Macháčová, Hana Vaňková, Iva Holmerová, Inna Čábelková and Ladislav Volicer have published an article entitled "Ratings of activities of daily living in nursing home residents: comparison of self- and proxy ratings with actual performance and the impact of cognitive status". The text deals with a topic that was already open in the article Experience with evaluating self-sufficiency: the views of frail seniors and their care-givers.
